Good and not so good points of my weekend till now… or rather since the last time I posted…

Thursday afternoon was spent at Toa Payoh with TKM and YKM.
Ate at Sizzler and then went to the library… evening spent at tuition… heh
Was supposed to go to tuition on Friday evening but could not make it due to my first day of relief teaching at a particular primary school.
My first stab at relief teaching!
-psychotic laughter-
I took the same Primary 1 class for most of the day.
Spent most of the day trying to get them to listen to my instructions. Not easy ok! They sent most of their time running up and down complaining to me about their classmates and doing the stuff, which all small kids like to do… talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk and SCREAM.
Had to nurse my ears, throat and feet at the end of the day.
You just try taking a class of 31 students, one who is partially deaf, one who is the principal’s son and one who is an exchange student from Hong Kong.
Add to that the fact that you do not usually wear high heels and that you will be forced to spend at least 6 hours in those 3 inches of pain.
How would you fair?
You tell me…
Hahahaha… and hor, I was already falling sick as of that morning… so that day kinda made matters worse for my body. -.-lll
For all the problems, it was fun teaching the kids (when they did decide to listen to me.)
I look forward to going back to that school… hopefully I will not have to teach the same class of kids… hahah~

Saturday morning had meeting at GEC regarding the BCM vision for 2007. From there I rushed down to Whampoa NTC for the STF AGM.
Two meetings in one day.
Not bad aye? ;)
Very tired at the end of the day man… the coughing got worse and so did the dripping/blockage of my nose… headaches and phlegm … bleah~
The only thing that was nice to watch on telly that night was: Bollywood/Hollywood.
Still remember the last time I watched it. It was shown on Ch5 right before Bride and prejudice cam out on the big screen… hahah… damn funny and the weirdest thing about it is that it was directed by a non-Indian… haha… oh! The male and female leads were very good looking as well… not to forget the Raul’s Bollywood friend!
He was swoon-worthy! :D

Woke up at 5.55am in order to get ready for the day ahead on Sunday.
Met part of the Kovan team at Kovan McD at 6.50am for breakfast.
Alfred, Sotong, Aaron and Shih Han were all there before me.
We made our way to Whampoa and reached there before 8.30am… got everything ready and set the show on the road.
My last minute team for Senior Green-blue was made up of: Jill, Serene a.k.a. Qiu Mei and Chi Foong.
We did pretty darn good for the amount of time we spent practicing… we got bronze in the end… hehe…

The Kovan contingent did very well for themselves!
5 teams in total:

Junior Yellow: Brian, Scott, Jolynn and Zac.
(Jane could not make it at the last minute)
They got Silver :)
Which is especially sweet for me because I coached them on my own and they beat the Whampoa team… into the ground! Woohoo~

Junior Green-blue: William, Victor, Punithan.
(Sri did not turn up …grrr…)
Bronze for them… grrr…they could have done better!

Youth Yellow: Pui Cheng, Aaron, Shih Han and Ding Han.

Alfred and myself trained them.
Most of the credit goes to Alfred. He got them hyped up and ready for the actually day. I handled the initial teaching phase. We’re really proud of them coz Ding Han was the only one doing his own pattern, the other 3 are new white belts who had to learn the pattern in less than 2 weeks.
Power right?!~

Youth Green: Dan, Ding Qi, Woei Jun and Melissa.
GOLD!!!!! Hehe~
They did their own thing, can say they were rather self sufficient and they did go to the right people when they needed help with certain things.
Just hope it doesn’t go to their heads… I honestly think they could have done better… but the trophy is a good moral booster :)

Youth Blue-brown: Hui Fen, Eileen, Chin yu and Chin Zhen.
Silver.
These 4 got the gold in the same category last year… I guess it boils down to preparation… hehe

Kovan was named overall champion for the Youth Category :D

After the whole tournament ended (which was around 2pm), Alfred and I lugged the extra trophies to NTC to help out with the weigh-in and registration. The whole thing lasted until around 5.20pm.
Lug the stuff again we did to Kovan CC to present them with their trophies. And then we made for McD to have dinner.
Coming full circle ya?
We start and end the say at McD. ;p

It could have finished there, but we went back to the CC to get some recording done. Namely Koyro and Kuemgang Poomsae. Pown-age!

By the time I got home, I was half-dead and fried from all the activities. Let not forget that I was now even sicker from the lack of rest and all that running about.
The rest of the evening was spent staring at the computer… headache in the end… hahah

Went to the doc this morning.
Was prescribed the same medication as the one of my previous visits… I keep wondering why I am constantly falling sick… haiyo… holidays leh… aiyoyo…
Now kanna confined to the house and can not go out for donno how long… at least I will get to have my rest… have to sleep, sleep, sleep… hahaha~
Shall have to handle whatever admin work I have to complete from the house.
Was supposed to go for my dental appointment but on the doc’s orders, I had to cancel the visit and will have to book a slot another day. -.-lll

So there… that’s the sum up for now… charging at the books and pillows be the agenda for the rest of the afternoon!

Waterways Watch stuff, Church stuff, TKD stuff, Library books, Sleeping.
Trying to spend time with my friends.
That would about sum it up I guess, it could be and is rather crazy during the holidays.
Running from here to there and back again, like the headless chicken… as usual… I can so imagine Yang Mui rolling her eyes… haha
Yes, Yang Mui, I am getting to be busier now than I am during the normal school term… AGAIN.

We finally had Swee Shoon’s belated, belated Birthday dinner… yea, the one we have been planning for the past two months… materialised on Monday (17/07/2006), right after we all went down to SMU for the matriculation talk on volunteerism. As headed by Eugene and Yilinn.

My family’s been plagued with sickness after sickness… from TKM getting horrible headaches to my mum getting the flu and a splinter in her foot… shesh… the weather is driving all of us over the edge man…

I can’t wait to get back into training… to be brutally honest:
I CAN’T WAIT TO GET BACK INTO TRAINING!
There! I said it, or rather, I shouted it.
My legs feel itchy every time I see my friends kicking targets and doing warm ups… at least now I can do a pretty decent poomsae… the crap thing is that I kinda did too much the other day and now it hurts like a *itch… gwad… I am so wanting to go for my black grading to get it over and done with… but I have a feeling that I will have to postpone it for another 3 months… make sure I am completely healed… after all, I am going to be living with my knees until I kick the bucket or rapture… whichever comes first ;)
Speaking of which, I haven had the chance to go and get my referral from the polyclinic.
Its part busy and part irritation at the waiting time that is keeping me away this time…
Everyone keeps telling me to go during weekdays because there are supposed to be less people during the weekdays… the problem is that in Hougang, there are A LOT of old people and since everyone else advises to go to the polyclinic during the weekdays, everyone goes during that time and that stretches the waiting time to at least 5 hours.
Yes! I lie not.
Bluff you I get money meh? :p

Seriously, just ask any of my family members… they’ve got plenty of tales about that place…
Now I need to put aside a day to do that wait… need a good book to help me pass the time as well… heh

Back to TKD, grading was good… my kids did ok, and everything was good except for the small problem of everyone not turning up on time for their gradings. This in part was my fault. I did not foresee the possibility of the examiner speeding everything up.
The good : Everything turned out fine in the end. :)

The Whampoa Invitational is this Sunday.
So is the weigh-in for the 33rd Pesta Sukan aka TKD Nationals.
I am going to be spending more than half my day in the Whampoa region. O.O
I am looking forward to that day with part dread and part anticipation…
Last year I took part, this year I play a different and more multifaceted role. I personally trained two teams and am in charge of the entire Kovan contingent – admin wise.
Although I push my kids to the point where I feel I could be like a slave drive, I just want them to do their best… AND BEAT THE WHAMPOA TEAM INTO THE GROUND!
I really want them to have fun as well.
It’s been a maddening one and a half weeks.
Considering the time spent training my teams, I would think they have already done very well for themselves. Some had to relearn the patterns, while others have had to learn new ones… the latter batch was only allowed to pull that kind of stunt because I felt that they were capable of doing that.
My wallet’s gonna suffer after the tournament coz I intend to buy them some gifts in recognition of their efforts… Shhh… don’t tell them ok?
I do wonder how they are going to perform on that day itself, but regardless, I am proud of my kids.
I suppose that is where certain teachers find their drive for teaching.
To pass on knowledge and see it bear fruit has got to be one of the most satisfying sensations. :)
Not something that money can buy. Period.

Volunteering at WWS has its benefits, I have learnt much and given much and fostered tighter bonds with the members.
My time is not going to waste. :D
Speaking of which, today’s session consisted of sailors from the US Navy coming down to do a joint project with WWS and Mayflower Secondary school.
I’ll get to the point(s):
The weather was hot.
Work got done.
Fresh from my injury, I went cycling as part of the session.
The guys were not bad looking, but not that great looking compared to the previous batch.
I started swooning when I saw one of the guys.

Solid stuff man… in more ways than one.

Hmm… since I am on the subject of sailors:
I went to watch Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest last Thursday.
Was it good?
The action and plot was not bad.
Would I watch it again?
Probably not. Waiting for the VCD to come out…
Why?
This film suffers from the same problem as Superman Returns.
IT HAS NO FINALITY TO IT!
The director and writers make it far too painfully obvious that there is going to be a another film which we must watch in order for us to see what is to become of the characters.
I left the cinema with more questions than answers lor… do you have any idea now irritating that is??!?!
And it is not as if the movie is anything like LOTR.
Those movies have an excuse mainly because they are based on books which need to be told with as much quality as possible, hence dragging on to 3 films and countless hours of director’s cuts.
Pirates is based on a Disneyland ride for goodness sake!
By watching this particular ‘installment’ of the franchise, I have in basically and indirectly forced myself to watch the 3 movie which is coming out in XXX number of months…
And then the whole brouhaha will start all over again with the movie breaking all sorts of box-office records… and why?
Because everyone is being forced to watch it!
Blackmail I say!
Freaking blackmail!
BUT!
Before you start wanting to bash my door down or finding my number to flame me, I admit that the movie kept me on the edge of my seat and the special effects were very interesting.
Johnny a.k.a. Captain Jack Sparrow made the movie worth my 8 bucks.
I was not in it for what’s his face… though he did make for good eye candy… Johnny is after all – the original pirate, aye?

Heard the song sung by Carrie Underwood during AI Season 4 and it brought back memories… hehe… listened to it on the radio the other day and though it was time I posted the song… just to get it out of my system…

Unable to move without pain...

Sunday’s injury has been the source of pain for the past 3 days…
Due to that injury, I had to go to the doctor yesterday morning and she gave me an injection, which has rendered my left arm pretty much useless to me.
So now, I am unable to use 3 of my limbs.
Fancy that.
Gwad… what a mess…

Went to school on Monday to try and settle some of the Orientation stuff.
Tuesday was the big day itself.
The recruitment that day was very good and a lot better than the next day.
Giant Kudos to Sean.
The resident shuai ge was the one who put everything together.
I guess without him, the turn out would not have been as favorable.
Now we have to look towards the pastoral care of the freshmen who signed up.
The odds are that a certain percentage will turn up and an even smaller lot will decide to stay on with the club.
It’s all in God’s hands. We can only pray and hope for the best.

Later have to attend to the grading’s administration matters… so have to leave the house… as much as I would like to stay at home and rest, there are important things to handle… all for the sake of a easy job this coming Sunday.

Due to my injuries, I haven been able to sleep properly…
Sharon without proper sleep = A grumpy and irritable Sharon.
That’s a very valid equation, especially when you consider the fact that I end up with a stiff neck and aching muscles every morning…
Ah… where is the bright side in all of this?!

But when I have long hair?
Complain that my hair keep dropping all over the house… for goodness sakes!

Wednesday… the WWS blunder… but it all turned out good :)
Then went to Shi Min’s party.
Very glad that Shi Min had a good time.
Caught up with old friends from JC and hung with SIM buddies… have to plan an outing xia… must go out and play~! :D

Thursday was spent in the house…. Resting and waiting for the evening time to roll around…
Caught Superman Returns on Friday with Aziz. :)
Here’s the irony:
I did not want to watch the movie at first, but he managed to talk me into watching it.
In the end, he was the one dissing the movie while I was defending it… O.olll

All in all, the special effects and plot were not too shabby, but I feel that there was not any concrete sense of finality at the end of the movie… I mean, Lex only gets marooned, Louis does not choose between the two guys, the crystals get flown out into space and Jason is still wheezing from ‘asthma’ … I so see a part 2 coming in the next few years…
And in case you’re wondering, I don mind Brandon Roth one bit…

After the movie, we walked from Takashimaya to Plaza Sing… Library to Kino and other shops…looking for books and presents and VCDs… lets just say that I have spent more than my share of money for the entire month of July…

I made the most of the last day for borrowing double the limit at the library :D
Got me 8 books and grumbled all the way home about the weight… hahaha… but the books are totally worth it… I even managed to find the continuing book to Cloud of Sparrows.

I also managed to do some scouting regarding the books I intend to buy in the later part of my holiday… choices, choices… hard to make when there are so many feasible options…

But I am happy that I have choices all the same… better than not having any at all… heh….

Saturday… to work…to TPY… Black belt grading and then to Sizzler for Lucien’s birthday dinner… Alfred + Lucian + Me = Chaos.
We ate a lot… it was a lot… believe me…
It is kinda scary watching those two guys eat… o.olll

Got up bright and early today to get ready for service.
My lesson bombed… darn… wish it had gone better… but I will do better for the next one!
I promise!
Beelined to WWS for bike patrol.
My first time since the maiden recce we did one year back, and this time, I was the Patrol leader.
My members consisted of Eric, Deborah, Timothy, Terrance and Ved.
Thank God that Eugene asked Ved to come down… if not I would have been going blindly for a lot of things…
Highlight of the day: I got injured.
I think I am the first person to get injured during bicycle patrol.

My right leg is now a road map of blood and bruises with a deep cut in the center… hahaha… as per normal… I spent most of the time laughing… from getting injured to going home and talking about it and now while in front of the computer I am still laughing at how accident prone I am… hahaha… nice long history I have with getting injured aye?

The funny thing was that the boat and bicycle patrols were on the verge of being called off by Ivan because of the weather. Ivan was in charge for the boat patrol today by the way. They went out to do water sampling and other scientific stuff… heh…
Helped with the cleaning up and then some, followed by writing out the report, and then my whole crew headed out to the hawker centre for lunch.
The conversation with Ved was very interesting and enlightening.
So much I have yet to learn and see in this world… wow…

The rain finally decided to show up once we decided to start making our way home.
Got home and got my wounds cleaned up only to find myself stepping out of the house again to go and help with the training at the CC.

Considering grading is next Sunday… I hope that lightning does not strike twice in the same place, coz some kids really do deserve a huge smack… and I am being merciful about it… bleah~!

Saturday was spent at amk and then at the library followed by a trip to Heartland mall to do some shopping… Sunday was a blur of activity… the usual stuff… Monday saw me making the trip back to SIM for training… at least the overseeing portion anyway…
Which would probably account for why my body is aching so badly now… my knees especially… bleah… x.xlll

A mixture of emotions these few days has assailed me.
From happiness to extreme irritation and anger… bleah… not something I like… then again, what’s new?

I don get to watch it every week coz I am usually at cell group, but I managed to watch tonight’s episode… haha… taken a liking to the guy who is acting as Dong Jin aka DJ ala Eugene Lee.
He’s cute!
Oh yeah… Ugly but adorable… hahah

Is it just me or are the shrieking girls on Singapore Idol drowning out the voices of the singers on stage?
Den again… what do I care?
I haven even bothered to watch a single episode of that program…
